Some acne shows how small pimples / blackheads, while other types of acne are more severe and lead to some kind of scar formation.
30 years ago, we do not have many acne treatment products. After the walk to the local pharmacy recently, I was bombarded with amazing amount of products available. The prices for the products range from the low $ 5 to well over 30 dollars and even higher.
So, what works and what does not? Who will ever return of their acne products to the companies that advertise "Guaranteed results"?
There are 4 very common treatments for acne:
1st Over-the-counter drugs. These products are readily available in drugstores and supermarkets. The range of effectiveness depends on the individual and whether or not the instructions are followed.
2nd Name brand products. These products include celebrities supported products such as Proactive, the Clinique 3 Step System, the acne-free system, and much more. These products are available online and through specialty stores. The prices for these products are much higher that the pharmacy drugs. Effectiveness is unclear.
3rd Antibiotics. Many dermatologists before their acne patients, the antibiotics for as long as they have acne. Some patients report that their acne cleared up and some report no change. Once the patient is no longer under the antibiotics, it is very likely that the acne is not only the return, but still much worse than before.
4th Acutance. This is the modern cure for acne. This product is only available by prescription and has some nasty side effects such as organ damage, low level, suicide, hair loss, etc. Many patients experience a great improvement in their acne with Acutance, but it is really worth risking all, the side effects. This product will cost between $ 300-600 per month depending on your weight. Monthly blood tests are required.
So far, none of the 4 main treatments for acne have a great success rate. Some treatments experience a higher success rate than others, but overall there is no final victory treatment.
